Organizational structure
Instructions
You will write a ≈1,250ish-word paper covering three related topics. Use headings and subheadings in your document so that it is easy to follow and recognize each of the parts.
1: Legal structure
Part 1:
In ≈300 words, describe the legal structure for your organization. Include details about the following:
- Which IRS subsection it qualifies under (501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), etc.) and why
- If a 501(c)(3), which NTEE-CC subsector it falls under and why
- Whether the nonprofit will be a membership or a nonmembership organization and why
Part 2:
Follow the sample provided by Georgia’s Office of Secretary of State (see p. 3 here) and create a set of draft Articles of Incorporation for your nonprofit. See here for more details. You should use the IRS boilerplate language here as well.
2: Organizational structure
As a team, create an organizational structure for your nonprofit. Describe what it will look like. Will it be run by volunteers? Will it have professional paid staff?
Create at least 4 job descriptions for volunteers and/or staff members, and create an organizational chart that shows the structure of the organization (consider using something like Diagrams.net, Lucidchart, or Creately for this).
Describe and justify your choices in ≈500 words.
3: Board structure
As a team, describe how your nonprofit’s board of directors will be structured and justify why it is the best fit with your type of nonprofit. Do this in ≈400 words.
Turning it in
Submit the paper as a Word document or a PDF to iCollege. Do not submit a link to a Google document—if you use Google Docs, export the document as a Word or PDF file first and submit that.
Since this is a team assignment, only one copy of the assignment needs to be submitted.
Grading
I will grade this assignment using this rubric: blank_organizational-structure.xlsx
(I’d highly recommend downloading the rubric and referencing it as you work on your assignment!)
